With a cup of cinnamon apple tea and music pulling the boiling blood through my arteries to my brain, here it comes.
I don't know if I'm disgusted by or just tired of the way things have been. Until 2008, I was never even vaguely interested in politics. I figured that government and the ways of the world were things way over my head, and the most I could do is watch it all happen as if it were on television. Until 2008. When I realized how fast we were going, and how quickly the brick wall in front of us kept getting bigger...closer... Now it's 2009. We've changed drivers and crews. Seems like they've downshifted to pick up more speed. The wall grows increasingly closer. Knowledge of impending messy collision shadows the mind. I'm reminded of a particular recent tragic flight in American history on which a determined AMERICAN sounded the words, "Let's Roll." His intent was to regain control of a rogue vessel. Prophetic, perhaps.
I've never claimed that I was either a Republican or Democrat; and considering the blurred lines between the two right now, I still avoid association. An interesting thought occurred to me today as I began to define each party in very general ways. This is how it seems to me, and should be taken as opinion. Democrats, judging loosely from history, are the knee-jerk reaction. The extreme and often hasty decision in a sticky situation. Republicans are the more rational, thought-out plan whose conservatism can sometimes be dead weight as much as it can be the real progress that we need. Each party has its great qualities, and each its dismal ones. Both are opposite ends of a spectrum, and they are necessary so that a middle may be defined. This middle, I thought, would be the bipartisan contributions and compromises of both sides. Represented by a President and a national economy.
This should not be a new idea. I'd expect most people to think I just passed a seventh-grade consitution test and wonder what the hell my point is. However, this reiteration of the basics is something I need to repeat to myself occasionally while the present is happening. Because the middle has been dissolved; the two ends catfight and engage in pressure points so much that they appear to be one unit; and the center Representative has an agenda that seems to represent only one side of the spectrum.
[angry aside]: The new stimulus plan includes $200 million to re-sod the National Mall. Why? Because of the stampede during the inauguration. The number of attendees was anticipated. Instead of the $150 million inauguration party, maybe we could have used the money we raised during our campaign to fix the damage we caused? Rather than leave it to the taxpayers? But I'm sure the party decorations were lovely.
Every day, I hear phone calls on the radio from people who have tried to talk to their local government. Who have tried to stand against things like bailouts. Their congress people blew them off. They continue to receive calls, and those calls go unanswered or shunned. Can I trust that this is truly happening? How do I know that these people are being honest? I suppose I invest as much faith in what I hear as most people do in believing that the media is telling them all sides of every story. So you let me know what that means to you.
Back on topic - When is it enough? When do we find the time to sit at home and look up American history on the internet, maybe even print out a copy of the Constitution? Making an attempt to understand that, after 212 years, we have lived and accomplished with thanks primarily to that piece of paper. And the ideas it set forth. I'll make it easy...how's Wikipedia sound? Here's a link --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Constitution Read it and embrace whatever you take from it. I found it relevant to today when I read the bit about Montesquieu, "who emphasized the need to have balanced forces pushing against each other to prevent tyranny."
[funny aside] Gunsmiths & gun shop owners thank Obama, calling him their best salesman! It's funny, but I hope this isn't a forewarning of bad days ahead.
So. When a government seems to want to take control of everything....what do we do? They don't listen? Ok. Speak louder. Present rational solutions. Take a stand. This is our money they're playing with. Our future. Our country and the freedom for which it was intended. There are other people out there who are angered; we are not alone. We just need to be heard.
[angrier aside] Pelosi is creepy. She looks like she eats babies like hot wings. She and the Fourth Reich want to begin wrapping their bony fingers around freedom. They want to censor talk radio, they blocked the House's ability to vote on American oil drilling, and they now want to implement birth control standards. At first, this seemed like a really great idea because of all the mooch assholes in this country that screw like rabbits and multiply like virii. Then it occurred to me that this could be considered population control. When maybe what needs to be done is a revamping of the methods by which our government supplies aid to obvious abusers. Because people, though you give them ample opportunities for contraception, will still have a choice to do so. And guess what? They will mooch. So now you've wasted billions on a bad plan, and you're still buying diapers for some crotchstain who just played you.
I'm done for tonight. I just remembered that we hired a tax cheat for our Treasury Secretary because Harry Reid decided there was "no one else." The country's great. The people...mostly great. But the goose...too good for the gander?

excellent blog i agree with you on many points...in fact just bout all your points lol. thanks for bulletinin on myspace. i look forward to reading more
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by to comment!
ReplyDeleteFYI the majority of the inauguration was privately funded. I'm quite sure the re-sodding of the "Mall" will be too.
ReplyDeleteAnd do I sense resentment against population control? I'm ALL for it! Along with mandatory sterilization among other things like required IQ tests if you ever plan on reproducing.
Ok. That really has nothing to do with your blog. Whoops.
mandatory sterilization along with required IQ testings has long been a dream of mine (lol), but unforunately thats one of the things that cross the line between freedom and control. i personally would prefer to be surrounded by stupid people and stand above than be told im not allowed to reproduce so our country can make more cannon fodder...i mean military personnel. there would be a small percentage of breeding for scientific advances, the rest would be aimed towards dominating out country and "educating" other countries. kinda like how we do now!
ReplyDeleteI'd rather be controlled then known as the dumbest, fattest, laziest nation (technically it's too late for that though). It's where we are heading permanently unless someone implements some level of standard.
ReplyDeleteSince we won't change on our own, force is necessary.
Hanging around Dark Forest lately has reaaaaaaaaaaaaally pushed me in the direction of those ideas. I seem to forget how unbelievably obtuse people are when I don't leave my Manteno bubble.
The difference in Democrats and Republicans is Macro vs. Micro economics. don't let them distract you otherwise. the talking head politicians are the top 10%. they have platforms to confuse you with to get the bottom 90% to vote for them. In example, Republicans (the politicians, not the self-named "republican" voters) want abortion to be legal MORE than the Democrats(still politicians), because if it was ever illegal, what would they have to stir people up? "hey, i know there's 10 of me for every 90 of you, but, um, vote for me so i can make sure that my 10 get all the resources" You know why no one's saying anything? the passionate have been successfully distracted with this Gay Marriage, Religion, Abortion mess, that no one wants to get involved in the mess. you can't open your mouth about freedom anymore. talk to a "patriotic" conservative and mention freedoms. they'll accuse you of being a sinful homosexual sympathizer and throw an innuendo out that you'd be accepting of incest. Talk to a "liberal" about right to bear arms. all of a sudden you want to kill babies. you know when our constitution started to completely erode? Civil War. prior to that, people actually gave some respect to the right to secede. it was a "don't like it, you're free to leave" situation. now we have the precedent that "if you try to leave, we'll stop you and charge you with treason" Lincoln no shit pardoned the South for treason, when they only exercised their rights. why doesn't anyone call them out on that? Slavery and Racism. Cloud the issue with emotional topics to cause infighting and confusion. if you talk about the Civil War being bullshit, you'll never get the point across. the only issue in the government is money, but people love to hide that with a bunch of bullshit that tends to be no one's business in the first place. sorry for the rambling, it's just pissing me off.
